The Spring 2014 NCCGA season is finally upon us in the Northwest Region even though it doesn’t seem like it should be anywhere near us. The past two months we have had on and off snowfall with most of it coming in the past week. Luckily for us though, the courses we are playing have stayed fairly dry throughout all these storms coming through the Northwest.
This season is shaping up to be a good one and we have the same three schools we had in the Fall season. In addition, the NCCGA Northwest is looking to add a few more teams in between our first and second regional tournament. Here is a look at the upcoming season and the teams who are participating.
NCCGA Northwest - Adam Englehorn
Courses:
Regional 1 will be hosted in Kennewick, Washington at Canyon Lakes Golf Course (http://www.canyonlakesgolfcourse.com/). Canyon Lakes 12th hole is the Largest green in the entire Northwest so let’s hope the guys don’t miss that one. Also, Canyon Lakes has been ranked for top golf courses in Northwest by Golf Digest for a number of years and the Number 1 course to play in the tri-cities area voted on by the citizens themselves. The players are looking to post some good scores here to start the road to New Jersey the right way!
Regional 2 will be hosted right outside of Seattle, Washington at Harbour Pointe an Oki Golf Course (http://www.harbourpointegolf.com/). According to a lot of people whom I have spoke with, they all speak highly of the Oki Golf Organization and how amazing all the golf courses are. Harbour Pointe is located right on the Puget Sound so players shouldn’t be surprised if they go long and balls ends up in the water.
Teams:
Central Washington University (CWU) - Central Washington had a solid Fall season but they fell short of winning both tournaments. For the Spring season they have added another team for the school splitting their squads into an A and B teams. They are coming into the Spring season looking to win their first tournament after a few close losses last year.
Eastern Washington University (EWU) - The Eagles are looking to win their first tournament after a rough Fall season. Eastern Washington is where the Northwest Region was started by Tim Flotte, our past Regional Coordinator. You can count on Eastern to come out on fire trying to start the 2014 season off right.
University of Idaho (UI)- The Vandals were pre-season ranked No. 35 in the nation. U of I got off to a great start as the NCCGA Northwest started off last fall by winning both the tournaments on Sunday comeback wins over Central Washington. The Vandals have added a few players to their roster in hope of taking more hardware back to Moscow this season.
The Northwest Region is ready to kick off its 2014 Spring Season and get going on the Road to New Jersey for Nationals in April. Even though the weather hasn’t helped us with a brutal offseason, all the players are ready to go. A little shout out to the rest of the NCCGA Regions, good luck this season and watch out for these teams out of the Northwest we are all hungry for a National Championship.
