Golf DC: More Variety Than You Think

Where else in the country can you play a USGA tournament-quality golf course spread across a former federal maximum security prison to enjoying breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains? Where can you play across Civil War battlegrounds or walk alongside the Potomac River? Where can you you play on either active military bases or Trump National?

All of these are available within 90 minutes of D.C.-metro golfers. Additionally, courses in the DMV area vary in price points to match millennial golfer needs. Whether you want to spend $20 on a weekday twilight round or $100+ on a Sunday morning, there is a course for you.

However, if you aren't ready for a full round of golf, rejoice, for casual golfers have found safe-haven at TopGolf Alexandria. It has become so popular, that the TopGolf is building a second DMV location in Ashburn, VA this coming fall.

If you asked 100 golfers from the DMV region what their favorite course was in the area,  you’re likely going to get almost as many unique answers. It is certainly an impressive aspect of DMV golf in a town with no shortage of opinions.

The area has some of the country’s best classic designs and modern layouts. Some of the world’s best architects have turned soil in the region, including Ed Ault, Bill Love, Alister MacKenzie, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, P.B. Dye, Gary Player, Ernie Els, and Tom Fazio. If you get a chance to golf DC, you won't be disappointed. There are plenty of standout courses and certainly something for everyone no matter how discerning your taste.

Northern Virginia in particular has been shaped by it’s close proximity to Washington, D.C. Almost by osmosis, NoVA is infused with a diverse and cosmopolitan mixture of golfers of all socioeconomic factions.

Objectively speaking, this seems to set the region apart from the rest of the Commonwealth. The area is firmly rooted in 18th century history, but continues to move forward in the 21st century. This is true for the golf courses of the area that pay tribute to the lasting history of the area. Whether it’s course names (1757, Stonewall, General’s Ridge, Bull Run, Musket Ridge) or the regularity of outings and fundraisers for Veterans and other great causes, DMV golf is inextricably tied to the DNA of the region.

Without a doubt you need to golf DC. Be sure to check out the Nextgengolf City Tour competitive tournaments for 18-34 year olds in Washington DC this summer.
