The Clemson Tigers out dueled the Georgia Bulldogs at the NCCGA National Championship in Myrtle Beach this past weekend. Both teams finished in the top ten, with Clemson tying East Tennessee State and Miami of Ohio for seventh place (+77, 797), while Georgia was two shots back in tenth place (+79, 799). There was a distinguishable gap between the top five teams and sixth place on down the leaderboard. Nonetheless, Clemson and Georgia can both state their claim as solid club golf teams with room to improve.Georgia’s performance this season was fantastic given that they only just established their club golf team this semester. I am expecting big things out of the Bulldogs going forward. Their President, Richard Hardeman, played a key role in organizing the club and making sure the team had structured practice time. If this continues, look for Georgia to have a strong spring season.
Matt Barth led Clemson to their seventh place finish at nationals, with scores of 77-76 for a two-day total of 153 (+9). Barth had a scholarship offer to play golf at TCU in Texas, but decided to attend Clemson University to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During high school, he was a member of The John Cooper School Golf Team and excelled as a leader on the squad. He was named to the all conference team his freshman, junior, and senior seasons and won the Southwestern Preparatory Conference Championship his senior year. Barth has the talent to do big things on the golf course, and the Clemson Tigers will need him at his best next season in order to take the team to new heights. I can’t wait to see what next season has in store for Barth and the Clemson Tigers.
