After North Carolina’s first regional a few weekends ago, Campbell, UNC, and UNC Wilmington round out the top three finishers. Campbell, a new addition to the region, had some really strong play and I look for them to post good numbers in the second tournament at Carolina National Golf Course. Their team will only be comprised of 5 players at this tournament so one bad round could really hurt their chances at back to back wins this year.
I look for UNC and UNC Wilmington to have strong showings again. This week is a “home” game for UNC Wilmington and sleeping in their own beds might give them a slight advantage. We must not forget ECU and NC State, both teams finished just barely outside the top three at the first regional. I expect strong play again from both schools.
My prediction: UNC Wilmington, UNC, ECU, NC State, and Campbell round out the top five at the second regional.
A cold front moved through the entire east coast in the past few days and I’m not sure what to expect for conditions at the course. A wet course may require us to play lift, clean, and place and will give a slight advantage to the teams with longer hitters.
I look forward to the competition this weekend and wish all teams the best of luck!
