As the first NCCGA Capitol Regional tournament is on the horizon, one could argue that the region boasts one of the most impressive and competitive slates of teams of any.
Teams like James Madison, Virginia Tech, and Georgetown have continued to improve and are beginning to pose a threat to the dominant Virginia team. Yet the team from Virginia is only getting stronger. With nearly all of its players returning from last year and the addition of a new wave of talent, Virginia is setting its sights on not just getting to nationals, but winning it.
The Capitol Region has also seen the addition of a new team in Johns Hopkins. Its two regional events are taking place at Colonial Heritage Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA and Forest Greens Golf Club in Triangle, VA. Both courses should pose challenging yet fair tests.
As the talent in the region continues to improve and the teams become more competitive, it is shaping up to be an exciting season. Virginia, as of now, remains the favorite to place first. Do not be surprised, though, if the wild card system results in two or three teams from the Capitol Region making the trip to Myrtle Beach in November.
