On April 5 and 6 six teams met in Edmond, Oklahoma to determine the NCCGA Texas Regional Champ. The players competed on a very challenging Coffee Creek GC. The course is notorious for incredibly fast greens, and this proved true as nearly all players experience a 3 or 4 putt.
Round 1 set the stage for a great Sunday finish at Coffee Creek. Teams struggled to score with windy conditions and fast greens. This caused a log jam at the top of the leaderboard. Texas A & M and Oklahoma St. finished with a team score of 413. TCU and Baylor trailed by 1 and 2 strokes respectively. Texas Regional superstar Anthony Sryko fired a 74 for a 4 shot lead for the individuals, followed by Stepler, Onley, and Terrell with 76.
The groups teed it up early on Sunday for an 8 AM Shotgun. The Oklahoma State Cowboys came out with guns up and fired a team career low 383. The Cowboys had 5 scores in the 70’s and won the golf tournament by 13 over the Baylor Bears. Texas A & M came in second, only 6 shots behind Baylor. Aggie senior Anthony Sryko came in first with a two-day total of 147. The tournament victory was Sryko’s 3rd during his collegiate career.
With their 2nd place finish, Baylor Club Golf earned the NCCGA Texas Region’s bid to nationals. The Bears finished with 9 qualifying points, 3 more than the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
